Holiday Trash & Recyling   Place your Christmas tree curbside for collection and recycle by 5 am Monday, January 9th. Remove all ornaments, lights and stand. NO artificial trees! Or drop off Saturday, Jan. 14th from 7 to 2 pm at Scottsdale Ranch Park 10400 E via Linda or Eldorado Park 2311 N. Miller Road.   The city will compost and give it new purpose.

Shred Events:  Get personal or commercial documents shredded from 7 am to 10 am in the WalMart parking lot at 15355 N. Northsight Blvd on multiple Saturdays--Jan. 7th, Feb. 11th and March 4th. Cost is $3 per box.

Want to improve the “you” in 2017? The City of Scottsdale offers a wide variety of opportunities for you to have a healthy 2017 (and to work off any extra pounds from all that great holiday food):

Do you have a teenager who wants a lifeguard job this summer? The time to train is NOW! The StarGuard Lifeguard Training class certifies your 15 yr and older in lifeguard rescues, basic first aid and CPR---the first steps to becoming a Scottsdale pool lifeguard. Classes are held Mondays and Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm and Saturdays from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. They begin January 23rd through February 6th. Scottsdale Parks & Recreation hires many lifeguards. Visit www.scottsdaleaz.gov and search "become a lifeguard".

There are two educational and support opportunities for Home Association residents and their officers. (1) The city offers the HOA Round Table with dynamic self-led discussions. Expect shared information on amending CC&Rs, the use of particular  vendors and management firms, effective officer skills, and sometimes outside speakers on specific topics when requested. No fee and no registration. Future meetings will be posted on the city website. (2) More than 80 Scottsdale associations are members of the Scottsdale Council of Home Associations (SCOHA) that is an educational, non-profit organization composed of Scottsdale HOAs founded in 1974. It provides a place for its members to gather, analyze, exchange, and distribute information important to the community associations in which they live. SCOHA supports its members’ communities through education inorder to protect their members’ investments in their homes and their quality of life. January 24th is the next $15 luncheon meeting is in the McCormick Ranch Golf Club and reservations are required. Contact them at 490 427 2884 or info@scottsdalehoa.com  or their website.

No city funds—all volunteers—funded by train buffs and a major SUCCESS STORY—that's the Model Railroad Building in McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park on Indian Bend Road just east of Scottsdale Road.( www.therailroadpark.com ) Watch model trains pass through a variety of mountains, deserts, work sites, and towns for FREE as created by these skilled volunteers. WESTERN SPIRIT: Museum of the West January events: Thursday Jan 5th Rodeo Photographer, Monday Jan 9th Members' Taos Society of Artists Exhibition Preview with public opening the next day 9:30 am to 5 pm., Thursday Jan 12th 7 to 8 pm "Mrs. Wyatt Earp" live performance, Wednesday, Jan. 18th "Life of Trick Rider Candy C Rodewald", Saturday Jan 21 The American West in Film and TV as "Real Women Become Reel Woman". Go to www.scottsdalemuseumwest.org for full details and the rest of the month. The museum is located one block south of Main Street on Marshall Way.
