COGS 2016 DUES:   Thanks so much for supporting our volunteer work with your $10 annual contribution.  Because 2016 is a city election year, we will again be hosting nonpartisan Candidate Forums throughout the city.  Our expenses will increase as we must rent the buildings and senior center rooms. Contact our COGS Treasurer if you are uncertain when you joined or renewed.  The Bylaws state that “Annual dues shall be $10 to be paid in January. New memberships paid from September to Dec shall be considered paid through the following year." You can go to our website at and click on JOIN. THIS IS PARADA WEEK:  No, this is not a City of Scottsdale event. Previously planned and executed by the Scottsdale Jaycees, the name Parada del Sol is now owned/registered to a private LLC. Yes. Your city streets will host this annual week and we appreciate the private group that didn’t let it die.  How can YOU get involved? Volunteer: Contact Kimberly immediately at    Wear western hat, shirt, and/or boots during the week. Ask your fellow employees to Go Western.    Attend: The Saturday morning parade that begins at 10 am on Scottsdale Road and ends in Old Town.  Enjoy: The Trails End street activities on Main Street, Brown Avenue and 1st Avenue and 1st Street.  Visit: The Western Spirit: Museum of the West and watch a special 1  pm showing of “The Outlaw” movie.

SKYSONG FARMERS’ MARKET- Attend every Wednesday 3:30 to 6:30 pm. on the SE corner of McDowell Rd/Scottsdale Rd.  It hosts 25-30 vendors that features local growers, farmers and ranchers selling fresh herbs, certified organic greens, grass-fed beef, fish, and artisan bread. Adding flavor to the market are vendors with specialty items from France, Tunisia, India, the Middle East and Mexico, making this farmer’s market a mouth-watering, multi-national and multicultural experience. Unique to this farmer’s market are live musicians and monthly or twice-monthly food demonstrations where visitors can learn tips on cooking, preparing and preserving food. Change of Hours for Palomino Library starting March 5th. Scottsdale’s Palomino Library will be open from 1-5 on Sundays and will no longer be open on Saturdays. The Palomino Library is located at 12575 E. Via Linda Road on the campus of the Desert Mountain High School.

GOVERNMENT: City Council 15 minute meeting this evening:  approved 5 liquor licenses, approved “Gallery” final plat at 3156 N 71st Street to have 18 residential units, approved Paiute Park new playground $84,912.57 and new playground at Papago Rotary Park $99,940.81, approved two airport bids $68,608.98 and $392,535. and approved bed tax funds for the 2017 Snaffle Bit Futurity Event--not to exceed $75,000. Note: The Basis Charter 4th through 12th grade new school at 128th Street and Shea Blvd. case was continued to February 23rd council meeting. Saturday 20 Feb beginning 7:30 am  Drop off your Hazardous Waste at 9191 San Salvador in the city’s Corporate Yard. Tuesday,February 23rd 5 pm Basis Charter School case will be heard before city council. March 1st 5 pm Equestrian complex for 54 horses proposed at 68th St/Cactus Rd case will be heard at city council.

Do you live near Fashion Square or any of these other proposed projects? Thursday,Feb 11th at 6 pm will be a Fashion Square public/neighborhood meeting at Thirsty Lion located on the southern side of Fashion Square near Barney’s. The requested height increase and new construction additions will be discussed. 3425 N. 70th St Public  Input open house at 3 pm Thur, Feb 25 for planned 3 story/15 unit complex. South of Camelback Rd/Granite Reef intersection.T-Mobile proposed wireless tower Neighborhood meeting at 7 pm Monday, Feb 22. Details on the alternative 45 ft tower and ground equipment new location on the north side of the church will be shared. 

Correction: Last issue we erroneously wrote “6 parking spaces per 1,000 employees” which should have been per 1,000 square feet of proposed building.
