Good morning, COGS E-Newsletter Reader.  FULL ALERT if you are an Independent voter. Even though there are more Independents in Arizona than Democrats, Republicans,  or other groups, you cannot vote in the Primary Election without action on your part.  No voting privilege is yours in the county and state primary election if you have not declared an established political party ballot preference.   Go online to https://servicearizona.com/voterRegistration.  Have your AZ driver's license and Voter Registration card number ready to include in the form. At the end of your entries you can print out a new card to prove your choice.  There is NO SCOTTSDALE PRIMARY as we don't have enough candidates to do the primary run-off. Remember that Scottsdale elections are NON-partisan.

UPDATE 4:30 PM: Apologies for the COGS E-Newsletter not being specifically clear for Independent voters. Yes, you must declare which party ballot you want  (1) when you ask for an early ballot through the Maricopa County website by phone OR (2) on election day at the polling place where you can ask for a particular party ballot.

August 1 is the deadline for new registration.   August 19th is the deadline for Independents and others to request the early ballot.

KEY DATES from the Maricopa County Recorder website:

Voter Registration Deadline - Monday, August 1, 2016
Early Voting Begins - Wednesday, August 3, 2016
Last Day to Request an Early Ballot - Friday, August 19, 2016
Mail in Your Early Ballot - By Wednesday, August 24, 2016
Election Day - Tuesday, August 30, 2016
