Scottsdale Home Tour returns Sunday, Nov. 18 th
The fourth annual Scottsdale Home Tour returns 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, showcasing a diverse number of mid-century and contemporary homes. Registration for the event begins at 10:30 a.m. at Andaz Scottsdale Resort and Spa, 6114 N. Scottsdale Road, behind the Borgata. Once again, a percentage of each $25 ticket will be donated to Scottsdale Firefighter charities. They have taken the tour to new levels this year with their co-host Andaz Scottsdale Resort and Spa—fabulous RAFFLE available. They are stepping up the classy factor with delicious samples of food to a beautiful setting for registration. Scottsdale Arts support the tour and many of the homes have extensive art collections. Tour the 60 acre Cattletrack Ranch north of McDonald Drive and the home of former Mayor, Sam Campana.

Saturday Dec 8th  What is Over-the-Line? Teams try to hit the ball over the line to score either singles or home runs. A ball that hits the ground before the line is an out. There are no bases to run and teams pitch to their own players. The defense plays behind the line and tries to catch the ball before it hits the ground.

Students need practice to be interviewed for a job and Coronado High School needs professional business volunteers to perform those interviews.The dates are  Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 from 7:45 am to 8:30 am and 9:41` am to 10:35 am and afternoon 1:39 pm  to 2:30 pm. The students have been practicing their interview skills in class and are aware that they should be dressed appropriately for their mock interviews next week. Interview packets will be provided. PAPAGO PLAZA  SW corner Scottsdale Rd and McDowell Road proposed retail-hotel and residential project was recommended to city council last night in a 5 to 0 Planning Commissioners’ vote. Commissioners Kush and Young recused themselves for conflict of interest. If approved by city council, the project will have 274 condo/apt. units, one small neighborhood grocery store, one small sit down restaurant, one drive through at the Scottsdale Rd/McDowell corner and a hotel with 118 rooms. The case is 6ZN-2018 if you wish to send Public Comment to the city council before they vote.

CAVASSON is the new name for part of the Crossroads East land. Nationwide Realty Investors have announced that its 134-acre mixed-use development in Scottsdale will be named Cavasson. The initial phase of the project, which will break ground in 2019, will include several commercial office buildings including the new 460,000-square-foot regional headquarters building for Nationwide Insurance, multifamily apartments, a six-story parking structure, retail and restaurants, two hotel sites, and significant infrastructure improvements. The project’s mix of uses will include approximately 1.8 million square feet of market leading commercial office space, 1,600 multifamily units, hotels, retail, restaurants, services and amenities.  COGS readers will recall it was called the Crossroads East case and is located just south of GrayHawk and north of the 101 Loop at Hayden Road.


APPROVED. Question 1 to add transportation sales tax to recover our $170 million in Scottsdale moneys being held with a deadline or it goes to other cities [54% to 46%]’

APPROVED. Prop 420 to require a public vote for any non-trail construction inside the McDowell Sonoran Preserve and/or to use the Preserve Fund for anything other than trails and trail maintenance or the purchase of more land for the Preserve. [71 % yes to 29% no counted as 74,213 votes to 29,918]

SELECTED for City Council: Incumbent Kathy Littlefield [26%], newcomer Solange Whitehead [22%] and incumbent Linda Milhaven [19%]

WHAT HAPPENS NOW WITH THE Desert Edge/Desert Discovery Center concept?

DESERT EDGE project is to be a topic on a future city council agenda. Councilperson Virginia Korte moved at last night’s meeting to agendize for possible actions by the council at a future meeting to:

1. Cease any further action to look for alternative locations for the Desert Edge (proposed project).

2. Cease any further actions looking at the business plan for the Desert Edge

3. Release the bed tax funds set aside for to the Desert Edge.

The motion to place on a future council agenda for action was approved 7-0 by council members.

READER’S QUESTION about those Preserve funds: “Can the council move Preserve Funds into the General Fund and repair the city streets, bridges and other deteriorating structures?”

Councilwoman, Kathy Littlefield responds: “No, the City cannot divert the PreserveFunds to the City’s General Fund.  That is illegal… However, Preserve Funds could be used for an annuity for the maintenance and upkeep of the Preserve.  It can also be used to purchase additional land inside the Preserve [proposed] boundary.  There is $68M estimated available for use.  $30M is the principal estimated for a maintenance annuity that would spin off enough money to maintain the Preserve in top shape.  That leaves $38M as a surplus for land purchase, etc. under our current tax structure.   It is not enough to buy much.  And the land will be sold in parcels defined by the State Land Department, not by us.”
