Remember the song: "Standing on the Corner..."
Are those people on Scottsdale corners homeless or panhandlers?

Standing on the street corner or under the Loop 101 interchanges---WHO are they?  Is the person homeless?  Is the person unwilling to apply for the $12 to $15/hour advertised in the store window nearby?  Our city has posted signs reading  It's OK to say "NO" to panhandlers. Give instead to agencies that help those in need.
Some cities encourage Food Coupons as handouts and actually fine any cash donors. A neighbor held a conversation with a man at a major intersection and the panhandler scoffed and said, "I make more at this corner then I ever could taking that job in the window over there and no taxes!"

McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park concert series continues through Sunday, June 30th.from 7:30 pm to 9 pm. Bring your blanket,chairs and snacks and enjoy a variety of local bands. Children will love the $2 train and carousel rides. Two year olds and younger ride free with a paying adult.

Stroll ArtWalks every Thursday summer night 7-9 pm in the downtown Arts District.  Galleries open their doors to collector and casual patrons alike to enjoy a wide variety of artistic productions.
Western Spirit-Museum of the West's 2nd floor celebrates the Apollo 11 lunar landing through paintings and sketches. Almost every Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm through August, a 45 minute "The Day We Walked on the Moon", Smithsonian Channel documentary,  will mark the 50th year anniversary for your viewing pleasure. Bring the whole family to relive the experience and excitement. Note: The Hilton Canopy Hotel is being built across the street so park in the Stagebrush Theater on 2nd Street to avoid the congestion. The museum is at 3830 N. Marshall Way--just south of Main Street.

Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) through October 6th encourages you to explore an interactive work called "Mutual Reality: Art on the Edge of Technology".  While there get information on "Simply Succulents with Dig It" on July 6th and "Beer n Bingo" on July 19th. Buy your tickets at their location on the western side of Civic Center near Osborn Road.

It's Monsoon Awareness Week, June 9-14. Each year, a variety of weather-related dangers affect the Southwest. Official monsoon season starts Saturday, June 15, and runs through Sept. 30. A period of extreme heat is typically ongoing at its onset, followed by daily rounds of thunderstorms that often strike suddenly and with violent force. Lightning strikes, high winds, dust storms, wildfires, tornadoes, flash flooding and extreme heat cause numerous deaths and injuries along with tens of millions of dollars of damage each year. Learn how to protect yourself and your family.

July 4th WestWorld Family Celebration. 4 to 9:30 pm includes live professional games and meet the gamers. Play Battle Royale Laser Tag and build forts. Fireworks will color the sky about 9 pm. Location is east on Bell Road off the Loop 101 then south at marked Parking signs

Save your pet! Know the signs of heat stress in your pet and how you can avoid it. If you wouldn't walk on that hot sidewalk barefoot then WHY would you take your dog for a walk on it?

ALERT: ON THE MONDAY, JULY 1ST Consent Agenda: Wolf Springs Ranch Final Plat (14-PP-2017) Request to approve the final plat for a 40-lot residential subdivision with Single-Family Residential, Planned Residential Development (R1-18 PRD) zoning on a 20±-acre site on the NW corner of N. 94thStreet and E. Cactus Road .Note: If you want to send your comments on this PRIOR to July 1st send to and identify it as Consent Agenda #6. This case is grouped with other agenda items and set up for ONE VOTE for all those at one time. If you want to talk at the microphone, you must request a council member to pull it from the Consent Agenda and to place it on the Regular Agenda.     Salt River Project will be installing new steel pipe over the Arizona Canal near Jackrabbit Bridge June 18 – 20. During this time both banks and the bridge will be closed to public access.     Pima Road/90th Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction at Loop 101 June 6 - Aug. 15.  A Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community construction project southeast of the intersection of 90th Street and Via Linda will cause traffic restrictions and delays on 90th Street from Via Linda to Loop 101. Pima Freeway construction impacts city streets. The Arizona Department of Transportation continues widening and improving the Loop 101 from Interstate 17 in Phoenix to Pima Road in Scottsdale. Various freeway ramps at the Scottsdale and Hayden interchanges will be closed for 60 days to allow work on the Miller Road detour and to adjust the ramps for the freeway widening:

  • Scottsdale Road Interchange:
  • Westbound 101 off ramp will be closed starting at 9 p.m. Monday, June 17. Drivers should use Hayden Road or 64th Street.
  • Eastbound 101 on ramp will be closed starting at 9 p.m. Monday, June 24. Drivers should use 64th Street or Hayden Road.
    Hayden Road Interchange:
  • Westbound 101 on ramp will be closed starting at 9 p.m. Monday, June 17. Drivers should use the westbound frontage road to Scottsdale Road or Pima/Princess to access westbound 101.
  • Eastbound 101 off ramp will be closed starting at 9 p.m. Monday, June 24. Drivers should use Scottsdale Road or Pima Princess.In addition, all eastbound lanes on the 101 from 56th Street to Scottsdale Road will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, June 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 24.

The city will hold a Special Election by mail to seek approval for the issuance of bonds for parks, recreation, and senior services; community spaces and infrastructure; and public safety and technology in the principal amount up to $319 million.
