CORRECTION ON the June 30th newsletter…Agenda #2 is on Tuesday,  JULY 2ND city council meeting agenda starting at 5pm.  The error was saying  July 1st for Tuesday.  Apologies for those of you who want to write to the city council on the city’s proposed $3 million dollar purchase and renovation of the Main Street Plaza condo for office space. You have time to do it today..   or to them individually.

Caesar’s Republic becomes the  tenth new hotel in various stages of development in Scottsdale--most south of Camelback Road.  Caesar’s Republic (new brand) will be located on the northern side of Fashion Square Mall and north of Camelback Road.
 When fully approved, it will be Caesar's first non-gaming asset in the United States. This modern 11 story (estimated at 150 feet with rooftop mechanics)  glass structure with 266 rooms will be developed at the intersection of North Goldwater and East Highland Avenue.—a stroll to the state’s most elegant mall.
So, what makes this a unique investment for Scottsdale ?
According to the applicant:
  • The first-floor bar will be the spot for an after-work cocktail or glass of wine after a day of shopping.
  • The signature restaurant will feature a sophisticated, high-energy environment that will synergize with surrounding trade areas, catering to both locals and hotel guests alike.
  • There will be an abundance of outdoor seating on the patio with fantastic views of Camelback Mountain.
  • There will be a coffee shop, ideal for a casual business breakfast or as a grab-and-go option for those on the run. 
  • It will also feature a bridal suite on the 11th floor and five luxury entertainment suites.
  • On the second floor, there are five breakout rooms which will accommodate up to 40 people each or can be opened for events up to 200.
  • The second-floor executive board room is capable of seating 16 at a permanent table
  • It includes a 7,000-square foot column-free ballroom with 34-foot sliding glass doors which open onto the adjacent lawn, suitable for outdoor events for up to 600 people.
  • The ballroom is divisible into four sections and can accommodate banquets up to 500.
  • The ballroom’s LED lighting system will allow event organizers to customize the look and feel of their event with the ability to change the ceiling color. 
  • The ballroom will feature a cutting-edge sound, internet and audio-visual system.
  • The 7th floor encompasses a rooftop pool and bar .  The pool will host activities such as yoga at 9 and champagne at 11. The rooftop bar will feature specialty drinks by HCW’s award-winning mixologist. There will be weekend brunches and lively afternoon energy year-round. This area will also serve as private event space for exclusive groups or company events.
  • Adjacent to the pool will be the hotel’s state-of-the-art fitness center.
“Scottsdale is an ideal market for the introduction of the Caesars Republic brand. Scottsdale hosted an estimated 4.5 million overnight visitors and 4.4-million-day trip visitors in 2017 “, stated the developer team. Owned and operated by Macerich (MAC), Scottsdale Fashion Square features an elevated luxury wing anchored by Neiman Marcus, plus a new flagship Apple, and more than 200 shopping and dining options including market exclusives Saint Laurent and a recently announced Nobu. It is a major local and tourist revenue driver for our city.
According to some of the Optima residents to the north:
  • It is too tall and massive
  • It blocks our previous views of Camelback Mountain and other views
  • Is there a public benefit other than bed and sales tax revenue for the city?
According some tourism-related business owners:
  • It will provide much needed large conference, multiple meeting and event space.
  • It may attract an upscale clientele for the area Arts District.
  • It will generate more customers for all businesses downtown.
  • It will retain the tourist in the Old Town area with the walkability feature

Do you want you to share your opinion on the November 5, 2019 Scottsdale Bond Special Election? It will cost you $100 and the deadline is Wednesday 5 pm on August 7th.
  • Identify if your statement is  "for" or "against"
  • Do not exceed 300 words in length
  • Contains a sworn statement of each person sponsoring it.
  • If the argument is sponsored by a political committee, the chair or treasurer sworn statement is required
  • Identify yourself by residence or postal address and telephone number which will not appear in the pamphlet
  • Deposit $100 with the Scottsdale City Clerk
  • Deliver to  3939 N Drinkwater Blvd (enter the Kiva/City Hall and the security officer will direct you)

 Scottsdale official website information:

"The City of Scottsdale, Arizona (the “City”), will hold a Special Election, on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, to seek approval for the issuance of bonds for parks, recreation, and senior services; community spaces and infrastructure; and public safety and technology in the principal amount up to $319,000,000. The estimated average annual tax rate for the proposed bond authorization is $ 0.2877 per $100 of net assessed valuation used for secondary property tax purposes.

Bond Question 1 seeks voter authorization to sell up to $112,600,000 general obligation bonds for parks, recreation, and senior services.

Bond Question 2 seeks voter authorization to sell up to $112,300,000 general obligation bonds for community spaces and infrastructure.

Bond Question 3 seeks voter authorization to sell up to $94,100,000 general obligation bonds for public safety and technology. Ballot language for Questions 1 through 3 is available in the City Clerk’s Office and on the Internet:

Questions 1 through 3 will be presented to the qualified voters of the City in an informational pamphlet. The pamphlet will be mailed to the households of all registered voters on or before Monday, October 1, 2019.
