Approved: 5-UP-2020 Building Blocks Preschool SE corner E. Shea Blvd and 120th Street. Request by owner for a Conditional Use Permit for an educational service, elementary and secondary school, to allow for a private preschool located in the Congregational Church of the Valley.
Approved: 2-AB-2020 NW Corner of N. Scottsdale Rd & Dixileta Drive Request by owner to abandon certain 33-foot General Land Office Patent (GLO) easement segments and the east 13-feet of the 33-foot (GLO) easement running along N. 71st Street, all within a +/-17.52-acre site.
Approved: 15-ZN-2019 NW Corner of N. Scottsdale Rd & Dixileta Drive Request by owner for a Zoning District Map Amendment on a +/- 17.52-acre site, located at the northwest corner of N. Scottsdale Road and E. Dixileta Drive. COGS made recommendations that were accepted by the developer and Planning Commissioners that resulted in (1) the HOA will be responsible for the public trail maintenance (2) the site plan will be changed with the eastern border lot walls separations to increase from 10 ft to approx. 15 ft. This will support animal migration and view corridors.

WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THE 2019 BOND PROJECTS THE VOTERS APPROVED?
The Bell Road Sports Complex. Participate and comment in a virtual public meeting on the Bell Road Sports Complex located on Bell Road just west of 94th Street. The facility will include six full-sized multi-use sports fields, parking, lights, restrooms, a plaza, a walking path and a maintenance facility. Participate by visiting the website (https://bit.ly/2XRrAUY) and clicking on the “Virtual Public Meeting” by Aug. 31. Your comments will be considered as the project team develops proposed facility plans.
Pima-Dynamite Trailhead Project $5.6 million. Before summer break, the Scottsdale City Council approved a construction bid award for $5.6 million to Path Construction Inc., for the construction of Pima Dynamite Trailhead improvements in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. The trailhead is within the bounds at 28777 N. Pima Road, with property entrances on both north Pima Road and east Dynamite Boulevard. Bathrooms, equestrian staging areas with water troughs and meeting space for volunteer and city staff will be added to Pima Dynamite Trailhead.
Planning for this project began in spring 2017, according to the city’s website, with an original projected completion in 2019. A new timeline now shows construction should finish in summer 2021.
Phase one of the project includes:
- Parking for 200 or more passenger vehicles
- Parking for at least 12 horse trailers
- Restrooms
- Hitching rails and water trough
- Covered ramada and small educational amphitheater
- Interpretive, directional, and regulatory signage
- Limited site lighting
- Small office/storage space with storage yard
- Drinking fountains for hikers and dog
- Entry roads with automatic access control gates

October’s Scottsdale Contemporary Month is cancelled
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many events around Scottsdale to be cancelled or postponed, including the 3rd annual Scottsdale Contemporary Month scheduled mid-October through mid-November. The city will reassess in the spring and bring the event back next fall if suitable. Scottsdale Contemporary Month would have highlighted contemporary art in all forms: film, design, architecture, and the culinary arts, by showcasing immersive art experiences, innovative programming, and exciting special events.

Scottsdale Public Art announces Canal Convergence is moving forward this fall The free, large-scale public art event will take place each evening from Friday, Nov. 6, through Sunday, Nov. 15. However, given the impact and conditions created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be presented differently than in years past with a focus on the health and safety of the public. Canal Convergence will still feature large-scale art installations, but instead of featuring them all along the canal at the Scottsdale Waterfront, they will be installed at multiple locations throughout Scottsdale to increase social distancing-friendly viewing options. Another change this year is a significantly reduced event footprint at the Waterfront, including the elimination of many activities from previous years. Instead, Scottsdale Public Art and Scottsdale Arts Learning & Innovation will host a variety of online events using streaming platforms and an augmented reality app to showcase live music, workshops, artist talks and more. More information on all the new Canal Convergence experience will be coming soon to CanalConvergence.com.

Scottsdazzle return for a 5th year in late November through December
This year’s Scottsdazzle holiday festivities will likely look a little different. The Tourism & Events department is working on programming events and décor that will spread the same merriment and cheer as years past, while adhering to Federal, State and CDC safety guidelines to keep our locals and visitors safe. Look for more information to come in the next few months. Scottsdazzle is a month-long holiday celebration that occurs throughout Old Town Scottsdale from late November through December every year.
