For many years new projects have been approved throughout the city with insufficient parking on their own property for their tenants, guests and certainly not their employees. No hotel, office building or condo/apartment complex is allowed to charge to use onsite parking spaces per city ordinance. This has not been enforced. Some apartments on Scottsdale Road are reportedly charging $100 per month for one parking space. Hotels range from $35 to $50 per night guest parking. does this affect our Downtown businesses? Employees park in customer street parking on 5th Avenue, 6th Avenue and Stetson Drive plus Main Street in-front of our galleries. Apartment/condo tenants line the residential neighborhood streets near their buildings outside their gated, capacity-filled parking lots. Family home neighborhoods north of Camelback Road and east of Granite Reef Road had Permit Parking signs installed.

Good news! The new city council has update the Parking Code to require NEW developments to build enough spaces for their employees, guests and tenants on their own property.  Seems like a no-brainer? And--relief is on the way for current tenants and employees that the FREE parking will be enforced. Thank you, majority council members.


Approved 7-0 Anti-Discrimination Ordinance

Approved 6-1 (Milhaven voted No) Add $10 million unfunded contingency in a Special Revenue Fund to be used for affordable housing.

Approved 5-2 (Caputi and Milhaven voted No) Request for a study session to review and discuss the Old Town Character Area Plan—to initiate an amendment to revise and update the plan for height, density. buffering, traffic, and infrastructure.
Approved 5-2 (Caputi and Milhaven voted No) Updated Parking code for Travel Accommodations (hotels) to include 2,000 sq ft exception for commercial use within the same building as the hotel.
Approved 5-2 (Caputi and Milhaven voted No) Reduce multifamily residential guest parking requirement to one per six units outside Downtown Area.
Approved 5-2 (Caputi and Milhaven voted No) Separated Downtown area for “Dwellings, multiple-family” to two categories—20 units or less and 20 units or more.  20 units or less retain the 1 to 1 parking ratio that exists today. More than 20 units change guest parking to 1 space per every 6 units.

Approved 6-1 (Milhaven voted No) Added tandem parking in the Downtown for residential units under the same ownership. Strike pg. 28 “Residential additional parking waiver” paragraphs (d) and (d) (1).

Approved 6-1 (Milhaven voted No) final draft of the updated Parking Ordinance 4500 and Resolution 12141 as amended.
Consensus during Work Study May 11th Establish a threshold to count Conflict of Interest recusals for all board and commission members. Develop a mechanism for tracking, monitoring, and reporting absences and recusals
to the Council. Additionally, they discussed Noise Enforcement and focused on loud bass noise and nuisance parties with “clearly audible” noise.

June Days Summer Spectacular is a month long series of events to celebrate the beginning of summer. In addition to city-produced signature events, Old Town Scottsdale businesses, retailers, restaurants, and galleries are getting into the spirit with special activities and deals of their own. From crafting workshops to sunrise yoga and bike-ride scavenger hunts to movie nights, June Days events will allow participants to exercise their mind, body and soul.
June Days also will mark the summer solstice with a dedication of the new Solstice Park, which includes the Soleri Bridge & Plaza. The June 20 event features snow cones, live music and more. Learn more.  
Museum of the West Celebrate western and Native American cultures, arts and artifacts that will connect you to the west—its past, present and future. Currently featured is Maynard Dixon’s American West. Tues-Saturdays 9:30 am to 5pm and Sundays 11am to 5 pm

Adaptive Services hosts monthly summer events. Adaptive Services provides comprehensive programs for those with disabilities that promote inclusive community participation. Locations will be confirmed when you register. Check out these summer activities:

  • Friday, June 18, Ice Cream Social at the Adaptive Services Center. Register so they can plan for enough ice cream!  
  • July, Self Care Soiree . Learn about dental hygiene, skin care, nail care, shaving, body odor and more. Don't wait to register as spots are limited. 
  • Attend August’s Movie and S'mores night, which will be showing The Sandlot inside the cool air-conditioned center. Make sure to register as spots are limited.

Residents are invited to participate in library’s Summer Reading Program.. This year’s theme is “Tails and Tales.” It runs from June 1 to Aug. 1 and is available for all ages. Sign up, log minutes reading and earn prizes.

The Neighborhood Enhancement Grant Program is ready to provide assistance in maintaining and revitalizing Scottsdale's mature neighborhoods. Eligible projects include landscape maintenance, perimeter wall maintenance, limited alley improvements, and neighborhood signage. Scottsdale Neighborhood Advisory Commission will review and may approve NEGP application funding. Learn more and submit an application.

Reminder: Anyone 12 and older is eligible for vaccinations at WestWorld in the Pima/Bell Rd area east of the 101 loop. Minors must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or authorized adult. This adult is required to sign a consent and attestation form at the time of the appointment. Walk-ins are accepted, but registering in advance will get you through even quicker. The WestWorld vaccination site is open: 

  • 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays
  • 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays  The facility is closed Sundays and Mondays.
